SeaFrance has helped the Marine Conservation Society in winning a prestigious environmental award.

The ferry operator has been sponsoring the charity in its Beachwatch campaign as well as pitching in every quarter to help clean the beach at Kingsdown.

The MCS scooped the Best Environmental Campaign award, voted for by Coast magazine’s readers in recognition of its campaigns to reduce pollution at sea.

SeaFrance customers have raised £180,000 towards the programme and volunteers and staff have collected more than 20 sacks of litter in their latest effort.

Robin Wilkins, SeaFrance managing director, said: “We are delighted that the Marine Conservation Society’s vital work has been publically recognised in this way.

“Their staff and volunteers work extremely hard to bring about change for our marine environment and we are pleased to be able to support them, both practically and financially.”
