Chatham-born stunner dons sailor’s outfit for inaugural sailing of the Norman Spirit
Model Kelly Brook has officially launched the new Dover-Calais route by DFDS and LD Lines.
Dressed in a a sailor’s outfit, the Chatham-born stunner joined ferry bosses to cut the ribbon ahead of the inaugural crossing.
The new ferry service, which runs under the French flag, was launched just a month after the demise of French operator SeaFrance.
Hundreds of jobs have been secured through the new service, although few are British. Around 130 local jobs were lost when SeaFrance ceased trading in January.
It is hoped the introduction of a second ferry – potentially a former SeaFrance ferry – on the Dover-Calais route by DFDS and LD Lines later this year may help some of the local workers. The joint venture between the two ferry operators looks to create 300 jobs with more created with a second ship. The Norman Spirit has now started crossings.
A spokesman for DFDS and LD Lines said: “We are grateful for the support from the French Government, Chamber of Commerce, the local authorities and the ports.
“We look forward to continuing this fruitful cooperation to the benefit of the future development of the route as well as employment.”
